이 앨범은 인간의 뇌를 가진 로봇(방갈테르)과 인간의 심장을 가진 로봇(오망크리스토)의 등장을 알리는 앨범이다.

4년 전 발매했던 첫 앨범이 날(Raw) 것이라고 한다면 이 앨범은 로봇이라는 컨셉을 가지고 왔음에도 매우 감성적인 앨범이다.

그도 그럴 것이 이 앨범은 그들의 어린 시절의 기억의 순수함을 가지고 만든 앨범이기 때문이다.

 

앨범에는 전작과 같이 '하우스(House)'를 베이스로 만들어졌고 여기에 '디스코(Disco)'를 적절히 믹스한 음악들로 구성되어

'테크노(Techno)'와 '빅 비트(Big Beat)'를 믹스한 이전의 앨범에 비해 가볍고 경쾌하다.

앨범명은 이중적 의미를 가지고 있는데 단어 그대로의 'Discovery(발견)'일 수도 있겠지만

'Disco(디스코) + Very(매우)'라는 뜻도 가지고 있듯이 매우 매우 디스코적이다.

결과론적이지만 프랜치 하우스와 디스코의 적절한 조합으로 만든 이 앨범을 통해

대중음악에 새로운 트렌드를 제시하고 발견하게 했다는 점에서 매우 의미심장한 앨범명이다.

돌아와서 1970년대의 디스코는 사실 하우스 음악의 근간이기도 하고 이를 녹여내는 형태가 매우 인상적이기 때문에

이 앨범을 듣고 있으면 새 옷을 입은 디스코의 도래 같은 기분마저 들게 한다.

이것은 다프트 펑크를 선봉으로 일렉트로닉 뮤직이 대중음악으로 나아가는 대표적 행진이었고

이후 일렉트로닉 뮤직은 현재의 대중음악에서 없어서는 안 될 필수요소로 자리 잡았다.

 

이전의 앨범에서 프랜치 하우스를 이야기하는 방식은 매우 과묵한 형태였지만 

이번 앨범에서 그들은 다소 수다스러운 모습을 보여준다.

이 수다스러움은 앞서 언급한 것처럼 이들의 어린 시절의 천진난만함을 보여주는 것 같아 웃음이 난다.

여기에 다프트 펑크의 넘치는 센스 또한 건재해서 사운드 적으로도 훌륭한 영감을 주는 앨범으로

특히 '오토 튠(Auto Tune)'과 '보코더(Vocoder)'의 활용과 샘플링을 활용하는 방식은 인상적인 것을 넘어 천재적이기도 하다.

 

컨셉 앨범답게 하나의 주제와 스토리로 앨범을 이끌어가고 대중들에게 이를 쉽게 이해시키는 요소로

'은하철도999'의 작가로 유명한 '마츠모토 레이지(Matsumoto Leiji)'와 콜라보레이션한 애니메이션도 제작했다.

이 애니메이션(Interstella 555 : The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem)은 각 트랙의 뮤직비디오로도 사용되어서

앨범을 즐기는 또 하나의 즐거움을 주고 있고 이러한 프로모션의 아이디어 또한 흥미로운 앨범이다.
